Resistance Bands: Home Gym Essentials (Pt.1)

Are you thinking about leaving your recreation center gym or cancelling that globo gym membership for the convenience of a home gym?

Perhaps this blog will tip the scales for you to make the move from spending time in the recreation centre and getting those gains at home and, in turn, maximizing downtime and time with family.

I was never really much of a Globo-Gym guy (for those who know, will know). I am fortunate enough to be able to work out at home avoiding the need to wait to work in with anyone and share equipment. As well, I can organize and clean up to maintain my equipment and gear.

Resistance Bands - Stretching

For those starting out their new home gym and even those who are seasoned, resistance bands is a great accessory to have. The bands come in a range of easy, medium, hard, heavy, and for those hulksters, the very heavy. Also recognized as Yellow, Red, Green, Blue, Black.

  • Yellow = Easy

  • Red = Medium

  • Green = Hard

  • Blue = Heavy

  • Black = Very Heavy

The red and green are good starters when warming up and getting the limbs moving before your lifting or rehabilitation exercises.

Types of Resistance Bands:

1. Flat Rehabilitation Rubber Bands

2. Resistance Tubing with Handles

3. Rubber Loops


Resistance bands can be a valuable addition to any home gym. It allows you to choose to your comfort level and the difficulty of the exercises. And the choice of band can adjusted if you have a current injury that impedes the use of handles or flat bands. Overall, they provide a versatile and effective way to perform a wide range of exercises that can help to improve fitness, build strength, and enhance overall health and well-being.
